Green smoothies
Lately I’ve been trying out some new things. One of these experiments was the green
smoothie I now make regularly. I’ve noticed I had some times where I just felt really tired and unmotivated to do anything.
I realize energy levels are very important if you want to achieve anything at all :D. So upon reading a few articles on this subject I noticed that one of the main causes of energy deficiency could be the sub-optimal functioning of my mitochondria (which are the structures that produce energy in our cells).
This could be caused by my lack of vitamins and minerals in my diet. Although I take a multivitamin daily I wasn’t eating much vegetables at all. And since I didn’t want to spend all my time cooking and preparing vegetables, I just decided to make myself a green smoothie.
Does It Work ?
So I decided to try it out. I’ve searched for the fruits and vegetables that have a load of positive effects on the body and just mixed them all together in one big blender. I’m not going to say it is cure-all, miracle but damn it does give me allot more energy during the day (or is this just placebo ? :D ).
So I’ve been thinking about making a load of these drinks and just freezing them in for later consumption! (Update! > works great!)
If you are having a lack of energy during the day, why don’t you give this thing a try? The most you can lose are a couple bucks and some time! Definitely worth a try. The recipe I’m using at the moment is the following (note all the ingredients are raw and uncooked);
This makes 2 shakes ;
Nutrients 70%;
- Broccoli: 100g
- Spinach 100g
- Kale: 100g
- Celery: 50g
- Garlic: 2 cloves
- 1 lemon (only the juice)
- Parsley (1 tbsp)
- 1 big onion
- Spicy, red pepper (½ Tsp)
- 1l water
Flavor 30% (Pick one)
- Mango: 250g
- Pineapple: 250g
- Banana 250g
- Apple 250g
Sweetener
- Stevia (2 tbsp)
How To
Just put them all together in a blender (or you can use a big pot & mixer if you don’t have a blender). I’m not going to say it tastes great (+ 10 honesty points ;) ) BUT if you add enough fruit and sweetener it is definitely very tasty!
If you can, you should buy organic produce since those aren’t sprayed with chemicals and whatnot. But since I can’t afford that I just wash my veggies really well! If you want to, you can play around with the ingredients and quantities. If it is to thick for your liking, just add some more water. (I mostly do this, which makes it easier to drink :) )
Essence
I definitely think, making a green smoothie is a great habit! It is easy, fast, cheap and packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that will boost your body into hyper-mode
If you have any questions or thoughts on this topic, feel free to share them in the comments below ;) And if you try out this recipe, let me know what you think!
Take care!
