On your path in life to become the ultimate version of ourselves, there will be many choices we’ll have to make and many obstacles we’ll have to overcome. This will sometimes push you to do actions you’re not really comfortable with or actions you’d rather avoid. You know that you need to focus on your goals because they are important, but it is rather easy to become sidetracked by the flow of life.
“Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans”.
You get sidetracked by friends, partners, environment. They all add up and make you lose focus on your goals. I do recommend a balance but it is of the utmost importance to stay on track with your life if you want to reach you maximum potential. Many people are being lived instead of actually being in control of their own life. Here are some great tips (IMO) on how to improve focus;
Write a personal mission statement!
- All your goals
(What are the things you really want to achieve/do with your life. Where do you want to make a difference?), Long term <-> short-term. In my toolbox you can find a template for goal setting, where you can write down your goals, which you can print and hang on your fridge ( or any other place you’ll pass by daily)
- Your view on life
(The way you want to look at life. Make this as positive and exciting as possible! Pick something that’ll make you jump out of your bed to start your day. You can also add some quotes, pictures and motivation. Visualize your ultimate life.
- The person you want to be(come)
(What roles do you want to fulfill in your life? As an individual, son, daughter, friend, lover? How do you want other people to perceive you?
Take the time to think about this and write it down on a small a4 paper. Fold this up and put in in your wallet. I read mine first thing, every morning so that I get reminded of the things that are really important to me. It helps me to focus and stay on track. It also motivates myself to go out and get what I want.
Another great way to stay focused and motivated to reach your goals is by visualizing your future before going to bed. Don’t be limited by any beliefs you might have. You can have anything you want if you want it bad enough :). Just imagine what you want. That is the first step in personal growth. Believing you can achieve it.
